Investigation of the gravitational interaction between the components of the galaxy pairs Arp 242, CPG 165, and CPG 410

Abstract

In this paper the effect of interaction between the components of the galaxy pairs Arp 242, CPG 165, and CPG 410 on the symmetry of their morphologies and structures is studied by applying the technique of surface photometry. For each component of each pair we present the isophotal contours, profiles of surface brightness (SB), major-axis position angle (PA), and isophotal center-shift. The present analysis is done using the r- and i-band images from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) observation.
It is found that the position angle and the isophotal center shift are strongly affected by the state of interaction between the components of the pairs.
